ENG 1905 customizes a weekly one-on-one meeting with a tutor, where you will generate and develop ideas for essays, stories, and other pieces of college-level writing. At the beginning of the semester you and your tutor will set specific goals for your writing, and at each appointment your tutor will help guide you on steps toward reaching those goals. You will bring your own writing – for your classes, scholarship applications, publication submissions, etc. – to each meeting, and you and your tutor will review the writing to make sure a reader will find it clear, well thought out, and representative of what you want to say.
This course allows you to focus on areas of thinking, writing, and communicating ideas that are most important to you. You will not be required to write additional material for this course, but you will be required to bring a piece of writing to each meeting.
Although there are no “homework assignments” for this course, your tutor may occasionally suggest that you try a new technique, approach, or organizational strategy when you are researching or writing your paper. Your tutor may also recommend supplemental materials such as Youtube videos, podcasts, or website resources to assist you with grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, or language usage difficulties. These suggestions are to assist you and can be explored in time outside class. If you have questions on these or any other resources to help you be a better writer, email Dr. Jennifer Wells for a list of recommended materials.
Although this course focuses on strategies to improve college-level writing, RWC tutors are also trained in reading strategies and can assist students with reading comprehension, retention, and efficiency. If you are interested in “reading better” at FSU, please see the information on REA 1905.
All ENG 1905 students must adhere to the general RWC course policies. Look over the most common questions for important inofrmation about scheduling, RWC locations, and requirements for this course.
